Don Jordan's '40s and '50s Small Group Swing Band
Based on the Count Basie and Duke Ellington small groups of the ‘40s, Swing ‘n’ Jazz plays music that is infectious and great for dancing to in that freewheeling, jitterbug, rock ‘n’ roll style that has found its way into peoples hearts and lives. It’s a great thrill to hear the old records come to life and to take yourself back to a time when everybody danced in pairs and had a ball doing it! We play classic tunes from the days of Basie’s Kansas City Seven and the small groups lead by stars of the Ellington Orchestra such as Johnny Hodges. We also play a number of songs by the exuberant Louis Jordan, whose band was the ultimate in party entertainment with his great rhythm ‘n’ blues style that came out of the swing era. You wanted a good time – you put on Louis Jordan’s Tympani Five records! As his namesake, Don sings these funny and timeless songs.
With trumpet, trombone and reeds (clarinet, alto and tenor saxes), plus piano, bass and drums, we can provide a great range of sounds and solos at all the tempos needed for happy dancing.
We play clubs, pubs, festivals, dances, parties – in fact, for any event that wants fun music to set toes tapping and get people swing dancing.
